Give me the good old days when the owner was a gambler - George Gannon, Harvey Gross, Bill Harrah, Harold Smith.... the worst part is that it has driven all the small clubs out of business - or I suppose, turned them into slots only places with no chips. I suppose it is caused by the raising cost of operation as much as anything else - you just can't make a living on a $2 minimum BJ table anymore... I bet we see a real shake out in gaming operation over the next couple of years. The Trop's operation in Tahoe - MontBleu & Horizon - are in real trouble with the jump in gas prices and the opening of a big new Indian casino 60 miles down the hill from them. The Horizon is already slated to close in about 3 years as a result of a law suit by the land owner - who also owns the land under the MontBleu. Perhaps it will be a time when smaller clubs can make a little come back.
