I don't understand somethings. I would like some input on them. 1. Jockey being investigated by PETA? Why? Is the jockey supposed to be a veternarian also?
2. Some are saying this put racing in a bad light. Oh? But BARBARO didn't? They fawned over him and still do now. Injuries are part of the game. It was very sad to hear about Eight Belles (I was crying,as I feel for that poor filly) She gave her all, and tragically she had to die However, it was a tragedy, and could have happened at anytime. 3. Her injury and death overshadowed poor Big Brown's victory? awww if you feel it did, blame society and the media. (If it bleeds, it leads).

As an example of this, look at NASCAR. Dale Earnheart dies in a race, does anyone remember who won that race? I know I don't. Did it put NASCAR in a bad light? Who knows. Same could be said for boxing as well.

As for the sport being in a good/bad light, who knows. It is sadly going into a decline, and what we need to change is how thoroughbreds are trained and bred. They are bred to be faster and faster, so their bones are not as thick as they once were. I mean in the older days, you could race a horse every 2 weeks or so, but now? Lucky if you can once a month. Also, there is not enough compassion for an animal when it dies. But instead of saying what happened was a tragedy, we go blaming the track, the trainer, jockey, etc. It happened, that is all. It was very sad, and I hope that racing owners and breeders are going to awaken to the fact that there isn't any meaning to the sport anymore, because BIG MONEY has caused such tragedies to occur, and there isn't any honor anymore, in my opinion.
