Re: Newbie Tip Of The Day - Guest Speaker Program

Needless to say I would not miss the seminars, here is why and when and who:

SIX GREAT REASONS TO COME TO THE CONVENTION IN JUNE IN LAS VEGAS

By

Sheldon Smith
Education Director
CC>CC

We are having SIX wonderful and informative seminars for all of us in casino collectible land.
Now I know that everybody that has been collecting casino memorabilia for at least a week believes they know enough and don’t need to hear any more.

NO, NO! You say, “that’s not true! I want to learn all that I can to be more knowledgeable of the hobby that I am in.”

What’s that you say, “there are these GREAT seminars featuring the likes of; Trimble, Herz, Kaplan & Pollack.” There’s more you say!

A presentation by Dr. David Schwartz from UNLV and Ms. Lisa Medford, the first nude showgirl in Las Vegas will be there too!

What more can I ask for!!

How about this:

Bill Ragsdale talking about Slim Ewing and;

his work with the Burt Brothers and mold development (Bill was there for the approval) & Slim’s $1,000 sample chip, a review of Slim's exploits during the depression as a 19 year old pilot for the Salt Lake City sheriff, running slot machines in California in the 1940s, in 1950 inventing the drop box, inventing the electrical Keno board, supplying a full line of casino supplies, Bill’s Caribbean sales trips with Slim, his mob friends (Jake Lansky, Meyer Lansky's brother, etc, the Cellini Brothers), and Slim’s local Vegas friends. Plus Slim’s ownership in the Vegas Carver House, a casino in the Honduras, a slot operator at McCarran Airport in the 1960s and his own Vegas Pawn shop.

NOW I KNOW I AM COMING TO THESE SEMINARS!

The Educational Seminars of the 16th Annual CCGTCC Convention are listed below.

Howard Herz, a seminar for FIRST TIMERS, I have spoken to Howard and it sounds like it will be a very good presentation with powerful advice for collectors and a possible surprise for the attendees!

David Schwartz of the UNLV Gaming Studies Research Center promises to be very exciting also, David presented several years ago and a lot has happened since!

Charles Kaplan & Ralph Pollack will present on the Caribbean including CUBA and the new Caribbean Casinos Collectible Club, Ralph presented last year and he and Charles have cooked up some great new information.

Bill Ragsdale worked for a long time for Slim Ewing and will present on the life and times of Slim Ewing and the Ewing mold!

Gene Trimble will present on the Preserving Gaming History Web Site as well as the importance of the records from the companies represented!

Lisa Medford, who spoke briefly, last year, will speak about the LIFE & TIMES of the FIRST nude Las Vegas showgirl!

1. Wednesday, 6/18/8-3PM

Howard Herz, The First Timers Workshop.

2. Thursday, 6/19/8-8:30AM

UNLV Gaming Studies Research Centers very own David G. Schwartz.

3. Thursday, 6/19/8-3PM

Charles Kaplan & Ralph Pollack, Cuba & the Caribbean.

4. Friday, 6/20/8-8:30AM

Bill Ragsdale, LIFE & TIMES of Slim Ewing and the Ewing Mold.

5. Friday, 6/20/8-3PM

Gene Trimble, Preserving Gaming History.

6. Saturday, 6/21/8-8:30AM

Lisa Medford, the FIRST nude showgirl & her stories.

If you love this hobby and want to support it you will come to ALL OF the seminars even if you don't collect Caribbean stuff; even if you never heard of the Ewing mold, even if you don't know who Howdy Herz is, even if you could care less about illegals, even if you don't know that Dr. David Schwartz is a leading authority on everything LV, AND you have never seen Lisa Medford live!
