its amazing that the construction codes back then did not apply, and how quickly the fire spread. Also, wow - 3 miles of hose I'm glad there is a fire hydrant 75 feet from my house... Our family was burned out in 1951 (I was 10,) when our two family house caught fire from flames coming from a fire in a 6 family apartment house "across the 3 foot alley." Minimal damage though.
