In most not for profits that I know, Board Members pay dues. The dues for an organization of this size should be at least $1000 and should have 20 or so Board Members. Look at Museums of any kind, art, historical, ect... The BOD is highly regarded and they are really looked up to as the backbone of the organization. They pay for the privilege to serve the organization. That is why the Board's main function should be fundraising and steering the ship. Not dealing with day to day crap. Day to day stuff should be the ED's job. With more Board Members it also spreads the Board duties around so it's not too much on any one person. Maybe we are asking too little from people now. This is my experience in the not for profit world, Board Members pay decent board dues. Dues are tax deductible in most cases.
I'm new here but I think the club can be a lot more organized, I write these posts because I really have a interest and a passion for the hobby and I think the club should be the first advocate for the hobby.
I'd be curious if anyone else serves on a BOD for a not for profit, what is their dues compared to the organizations annual budget. This should be discussed. If you give away a BOD position it is not worth much to the fellow members.
This has been my experience.
