Since I grew up as a child in Las Vegas (yes, I'm a military brat!), I can remember staying near Downtown and on the Strip at motels during my dad's off days (mom loved the shows back then). Sigh, I was too young to go to the shows but thought it was simply amazing that mom or dad picked up the phone and a pizza magically appeared at the door! Since we were on a "military budget" we often stayed at motels... Stardust, Sands, etc. were still considered high dollar!!
We parked our 1959 Cadillac (my dad's big purchase when he entered the service) out front of the room and I enjoyed running out the door and across the parking lot to the tiny pool all day....ah, the good ol' days!
My folks also liked the motels as, often the motel owner's wife or daughter would watch the guests children for 25 cents an hour back then while the parents went to dinner and a show...such a deal for my folks!
Thankfully, mom saved several postcards and now I have an itch for MORE! If you have any LV MOTEL postcards for sale, please let me know!!
Just for giggles (I've told this before, so I'm sorry if I bore you..)
My folks stayed at a place just off of Fremont St. named the Parkchester Motor Hotel (110 N. 15th St.)
....Pool...Cooled by Refrigeration....and this promotion was available on the weekends!
Mom kept the brochure, one of my most prized possessions!
