True story......this January, I was in LV. When it was time to go home, I got in a cab. I had purchased a small collection from a local, and held on to the case to carry on the airplane. The driver was an older, cranky-looking guy. He asked me what was in the case and I told him. It turns out he was a transplanted New Yorker (explains the cranky-ness), who moved out to the Vegas in the late 50's, gambled like mad thru the 60's, and gave up on gambling in the 70's.
His first few anecdotes on Vegas in the 60's were so good, I had him pull the cab over. I talked to him for 45 minutes. He told me about Dino dealing blackjack at the Sands, going to The Moulin Rouge at 2:00 AM, and the Grand Opening of Caesars Palace. The meter was running the whole time......didn't care a bit. When he dropped me off, I gave him a good tip. I wish I would have taken his phone number. That guy would have made a fantastic guest speaker at the convention!
