Perhaps I may have missed a discussion on this previously, but... Are the white inserts of these newer issue TI's stained onto the chips?

They sure seem like it. If so, do we know the process used? I'll assume it was intended to reduce chip manufacturing costs, time and labor, while giving up another degree of quality.

Does anyone know of any other examples, especially in higher denominations?
