Don't get me wrong--John Glenn is a hero around here. However, he was a hero with a good political machine. The speech was reportedly well prepared.
The original stab at Glenn was that he never "met a payroll" trying to emphasize that Glenn didn't have a strong business background (which in itself was a bit wrong--he had some).
