A new gold standard for Atlantic City gambling chips

ATLANTIC CITY - Caesars Atlantic City is introducing a new $25,000 gambling chip.
The N.J. Casino Control Commission approved the chip Wednesday at Caesars' request, although every gaming hall in town can now offer their own $25,000 chip.
The $25,000 chip replaces the $20,000 chip as Atlantic City's highest-value chip.
At Caesars, the $25,000 chip will be decorated with the casino's signature horse and chariot design.
"We're the premier place for gaming tables and that's why we're doing it," said Alyce Parker, a spokeswoman for Harrah's Entertainment Inc., parent company of Caesars.
The debut of the $25,000 chip follows Caesars' decision in December to raise its betting limit, per hand, to $50,000 to appeal to high-stakes gamblers. Dan Nita, senior vice president and general manager at Caesars, expects the new chip to start showing up at the big-bet gaming tables.
Atlantic City gambling chips now come in denominations of $1, $2.50, $5, $10, $20, $25, $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000, $20,000 and $25,000. Each one has its own color.
The new top chip, however, is chump change compared to the "plaques" that some casinos use at their gaming tables. The plaques, usually rectangular- or oval- shaped, have a value of up to $100,000.
"Have you ever seen those James Bond movies? Well, the plaques are what he uses when he gambles," said Daniel Heneghan, a spokesman for the Casino Control Commission.
