My Hometown Currency
In Response To: NCR, BankNote of the Day..... ()

Finally found the old National Currency that was issued by First National Bank in Carrollton, MO where I grew up. The large note at the top is issue 1902 and the signatures are done by hand, one note at a time! The smaller notes were issue 1929. My father became Cashier in the 1930's but never got to sign any notes as none were issued after '29. I knew W.E. Hudson who occupied the President's desk at the bank. Used to have a great time visiting my father at work and playing with the office equipment of the time: a check canceller, numbering machine, giant posting machines, and a Recordak check camera. A photo of my hand at about age 8 is still on a roll of microfilm somewhere amongst the checks.

In the 1940's, the bank cleaned out and closed an old bank vault in the basement. My brother and I were able to sort through the old checks and envelopes and capture lots of old postage and revenue stamps for our stamp collections. Many went back to the early 1900's.
