When I was a senior in High School, I worked as an usher at the magnificent Mayfair Theater on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park. It was state of the art at the time, but the building has since been demolished... as has the big Fun House (with "Tillie's" painting on the side of the building) ... and the nearby Carousel building on the Lake, for those who are familiar with the city.
The Stone Pony was also scheduled to be demolished a few years ago, but it is my understanding that the Pony employees raised the money to preserve it and continue operation. The 'Pony' is a popular legendary night spot on the Jersey Shore, (Bruce still occassionally makes surprise appearances at the Pony when he's not on tour and sometimes jams with the local musicians). Asbury Park (which fell into severe disrepair after the riots 30+ years ago) is now coming back with lots of investment money currently pouring into the city and quite a bit of new construction underway.
