Interesting questions Larry and I've been able to avoid finding out the answer in my collecting. Here's the closest I got. A chip showed up on eBay that you
never ever saw for sale. It was also in unknown-until-now SU condition. Considering what I was seeing and factoring in my chip collecting experience I was pretty sure that the chip was the first part of a horde and that the four-figure book value was going to fall through the floor. Now...the dilema: Do I let the opportunity to acquire this chip pass and wait to see what tomorrow would bring or do I step up to the cashiers window
now? You see, I've let a couple other chips get away by dithering and believe me, regret has a steep price too.
I liked that chip in my hand for $400 and by golly, I still do, even though it won't bring a quarter of that today. Most I ever spent on a chip. Buy what you like and you'll never be disappointed.
My two other Holy Grail chips. Bought into a 21 game at the Aladdin for $60 and colored up for one of those fantastic veiled lady $100 chips about 20 minutes later. Found the other one at last year's convnetion floor for about 20 percent book value. The seller knows his stuff so I happily paid his price. What would I have really paid for the chip? Don't know, I didn't even expect to ever even see one.
No Holy Grail chip on the list at present so I still haven't really had to asnwer your question for myself. Couple that fit my collection pretty good, but not HG's!
