Re: Three cool new chips in this afternoon's mail
Oh my, Cranbrook, BC! Thanks for showing the chip Dick, haven't been by Cranbrook for a while and it brought to mind more than a few over-the-road adventures. I was bouncing around the continent steering an 18-wheel chemical tanker for some years and we'd get up to Calgary, Emondton and various and sundry Canadian prairie towns out of Portland OR. on a regular basis. Prefered route was up past Mark Furman's place in Sandpoint ID. to the US/CN crossing at Kingsgate. Usually after midnight and usually pretty icey but you'd want to access Alberta through Crow's Nest Pass out of Kingsgate if at all possible. Easy trucking along a river and not too many moose in the road. We had a fuel stop at the Huskey there in Cranbrook, just a small town with small houses and small streets. Good idea to grab a hamburger there and hand the cashier $20 USD. Back in those days, you'd get the burger and $28 CND change. Folks in Cranbrook happy to take Yankee greenbacks but north around Claresholm, Red Deer and beyond, you'd run the risk of gettin' the stinkeye if you presented US. Nice to have Loonies and such. Wow, so they got a casino there now. Cool.
