NCR, BankNote of the Day.....
Today’s note comes from Northern Ireland. From 1800 to 1921 Ireland was an integral part of the United Kingdom. The Anglo0Irish treaty of 1921 established the Irish Free State of 20 counties within the Commonwealth of Nations and recognized the partition of Ireland. The six predominantly Protestant counties of northeast Ulster chose to remain part of the United Kingdom with a limited self-government. The note is a 5 Pound 2006 Commemorative Issue featuring the late Soccer Player, George Best. On the front are rural and urban views of Belfast at lower left and right with the Port and bridge at lower center. Small logo of George Best at upper left. On the back is a Portrait of George Best (1946-2005) at center with additional pictures of Best at right and left. This note was printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co Ltd. (TDLR) of London and has UV bar coding as well as watermarking. It is in a presentation folder. The face value is around $8.50, but with only one million produced collector’s pressure is causing the note to sell for as much as $50.00.
