"upscale" hotel....not gaudy at all, modern & roomy. The Plaza...not so much. When you do stay at the Wynn, make sure that you don't take anything off of the mini-bar for more than 30 seconds or so as it will automatically charge your room
!! If you are staying mid-week & want a convenient place on the Strip, try Bill's Gambling Hall (used to be Barbary Coast) or the Gold Coast (across from Rio & the Palms). I love downtown & have stayed in most hotels there but usually opt for the Golden Nugget (there's nothing like the view of the Strip from a upper floor south tower room
).
