There is no set way about getting chips at card rooms in CA. Some places welcome you in and are very nice about getting you chips. Other places, it is like pulling teeth! Good luck and don't take any of it personally. I have been to a card room and been flatly refused chips. Then been back to the same card room and welcomed with open arms. Just don't be shy about asking. And don't worry if you don't get them. Somewhere along the way you or someone you trade with will have them.
