I could have, and so could have anyone with any sense, told you this war was going to take a long time to complete before we went there. The only real quick war in this day and age would be nuclear with so much innocent loss of life that is would be unacceptable under most circumstances.
We still have troops in Germany, Japan and Korea...
"Since there was no exit strategy in Iraq, the spin is that we must win something. What we need to win has changed more times than I can list."
The exit strategy is leave when there is stability in the region, and that has never changed.
"Do you even remotely remember 'Mission Accomplished'?"
Of course I do. Those on the left have been trying to portray that to mean we won the war ever since that day, and they have been wrong in doing so. The mission that had been accomplished was the removal of Saddam from power. That didn't mean the rest of what needed to be done was accomplished.
"We are not fighting a war in Iraq, we are serving as their police department and CIA. We can fight al Queda with less than 150,000 troops stationed in Baghdad."
A typical CNN or MSNBC statement if I ever read one. Our troops are all over that country, and our increased presence has helped not only to embolden the citizens to fight the insurgency that has been killing both them and our soldiers, it has brought about a unification of Sunni's and Shiite's to fight those being sent into their country from Iran and Syria. You may not think this is important to us here, but it is indeed very important.
"At this point, it is costing too many Americans lives to be Iraq's police department."
Who do you think we're fighting in Iraq? It isn't your average Iraqi citizen. It is enemies who have declared war ON US.
"We are getting nothing in return and it is costing billions in money we could use domestically."
I'm not as clairvoyant as you appear to be. I do believe a stable middle east will benefit us here in many ways.
"I would rather use the forces in Afghanistan, to allow our National Guard to get back to their very important domestic work and to beef up the southern border to deal with the illegal immigration issue."
We never left Afghanistan after that invasion. That was before Iraq. I thought you wanted a precise exit strategy -- win it, then get out.
Our handling of our own borders is a completely separate subject.
"I am very pro-military and that also means keeping those soldiers alive to perform other more necessary work."
From what I've read, you think they should be border guards, not finding and killing the enemies of this country outside its borders. I strongly disagree.
