It really changed they way coin collecting worked. Before 1965 it was not unusual to find collectible coins in circulation - within a few months most of the silver had disappeared from circulation. It didn't kill coin collecting but it did have an impact. I think far fewer kids grew up looking through all the change they could get their hands on to make the "great" find. I think the mints decision to start bringing out lots of collectible coins has helped it recover but that isn't going to be an option chips. I doubt they will really disappear - they are too much a part of the gaming experience - I don't think they will be able to get the big players to set at machines. At least not any time soon. As for the impact on chip values - not much for a long time to come.
