Florida Gaming Expansion
Well, finally after 15 some odd years, in today's Federal Register the Bureau of Indian Affairs has published the Notice of Deemed Approval Tribal-State Class III Gaming Compact between the State of Florida and the Seminole Tribe to extend Class III slots and expanded table gaming. Bottom line, as far as the Feds are concerned it's a done deal, signed and ready to implement.
The only fly in the proberbial ointment is a pending lawsuit filed by a few of our moronic legislators against the Governor and the pact with the Tribe. Arguments are supposed to be heard on 30 January and with any luck, the Florida Supreme Court will rule in favor of the pact. From what I have read there is nada in the State Constitution that precludes the Governor from negotiating this pact and there is no implied authority that requires legislative approval. Lord knows we can use the tax revenue. Let the fun begin.
