Also the fines on the signs, don't have matching penalties. It's not just either, or both, but apparently, they can pick and choose which laws to use to prosecute.
Freedom Ridge is shut down, but you can still get a room at Luxor and spy on the "Jane" planes? (which I have no interest in, because there's so much more to do when I'm in town)
They do have test site tours where you can see the craters from nuclear bomb tests. There are a number of good videos with tours, made with permission, that show on Discovery Channel.
The sheep range practice bombing area was still in use, last I heard. Nellis AFB is still populated and active. The Groom Lake area may have been nearly abandoned for all we know, (kept up for a diversion only) and prototype airplane testing moved to somewhere without all the prying eyes.
Rachel looks like an entertaining road trip. I wish I had taken the time to go there. Instead I usually headed South to Jean and Primm.
