...I'm almost curious to see how they will handle the situation once they really take power, if they win the election. And how they'll react after the next major terrorist attack on American soil. And how the news media will portray their reaction. Make no mistake about it, another attack is coming, and it will likely be more spectacular and deadly than September 11th.

Personally, when that attack comes, I'd feel much more comfortable sleeping at night with McCain or Huckabee in the White House than Obama or Clinton, but that's just me.

It's too bad we can't see two alternative courses of history that would show us what would have happened if Gore had won when he ran against Bush in 2000. (And no, he DIDN'T win, so don't even go there) For all of the criticism thrown at Bush by the left, I think there's a good chance we would have still ended up at war in the Middle East no matter which party was in the White House. Neither party has a monopoly on the ability to make mistakes or to have their administration's achievements overshadowed by over-politicized scandals. And, neither party has a monopoly on the tendency to renege on the campaign promises they make to their constituents.

We've really got a pretty good system of government here, with two parties that are not so different that there are wide swings in the way things work when power shifts back and forth. And, with shifts taking place often enough for us to be able to remember what it was like when the other party was in office the last time.

The only thing that could make our system better would be if somebody besides politicians would run for office.
