I always take the room as it's the right/nice thing to do for the club, it gives us some juice in negotiations for convention space and cost. You can't beat the convienience of staying at the host hotel when the buying and trading gets heated. The rooms at the Riv are nice sized and you get two beds.
Some folks do alternative accomadations for various reasons. Guess the number one reason would be that the Riv rooms ain't fancy or even very fresh. Certainly clean and the folks at the hotel always treat us pretty good! Fish us outta the elevator shafts as needed and lend a sympathetic ear when your pocket gets picked. Your stay will most likely be without adventure. Rollers of various levels may have earned RFB at other properties and it's hard to argue with comped digs. Guess clubbers have used Expedia using the the old "saving money for chips!" chestnut as an excuse for donking the club out of a booked room credit... never have heard if that really materializes for these infadels.
In the end, it's a genuine blast, your going to have a great time and you'll remember plenty about your convention no matter where you stayed or what you paid! Look for me Smitty, I'll be there wearing one of these:
