I received retaliatory negative Feedback. Can it be removed?
If a Feedback comment violates our policy on Feedback, you can ask to have it removed. However, we can't remove Feedback based on a belief that a comment is untrue, undeserved, or left in retaliation.
Why eBay can't always remove Feedback
The Feedback system is a member-to-member system and all comments are based on each member's perception of the trading experience. Members are responsible for their own words.
eBay cannot evaluate every comment for accuracy or fairness. Because we were not involved in the transaction, we can't form an accurate opinion about how the transaction was handled.
If we removed Feedback, we would become legally responsible for all comments and potentially all site content.
What you can do
Review the Feedback Removal Policy. Learn about the circumstances under which eBay will remove Feedback. If, after reviewing this policy, you feel that Feedback left for you qualifies for removal, you can click the "Report" link to submit it directly for review and possible removal, without the possibility of replacement, once we confirm that the requirements for Feedback abuse have been met.
Communicate with your trading partner. Direct communication can resolve most disputes quickly. Request your trading partner's contact information.
Use a dispute resolution service. A third-party online dispute resolution service, such as Square Trade, can mediate the dispute. If both parties agree to third-party mediation and also agree to remove the negative comments, then eBay can remove the Feedback. There is a fee for these services.
Post a response to the negative comment. Leave a professional reply to any comment that you feel is inaccurate. The Feedback system is designed to make retaliatory and undeserved comments easily apparent. When a potential trading partner sees that you have a large number of positive comments mixed in with a negative comment or two, the positive will outweigh the negative.
Members have the ability to post a response to any feedback comment they have received, and to post a follow-up comment for any feedback they have left for others. We encourage you to use these features to create an accurate representation of your trading experience. See Responding to Feedback and Adding Follow-up Comments.
The feedback system is set up to make retaliatory and undeserved comments more apparent. When a potential trading partner sees that you have a large number of positive comments mixed in with a negative comment or two, the positive comments you have received will outweigh a negative comment.
Ask Other eBay Members – the Community Answer Center
You can get help from other eBay members by using the eBay Answer Center. Designed for fast questions and answers rather than discussion, the Answer Center is a member-to-member forum where eBay members can ask questions, give answers, and share information about eBay. You can also search for your answers from previous postings.
Learn more about the Answer Center or visit the Answer Center Board for Feedback.
If you've received retaliatory and undeserved Feedback, you may be hesitant to leave negative Feedback for others in the future. However, we advise you to always speak the truth about your experiences with other eBay members. If you feel negative Feedback is appropriate, you should leave it. Your comment may help prevent another member from experiencing the same situation.
