Here is a good one, I've told on the BB before but like I said its a good one.
Playing in a 6 card stud no limit game with Brooklyn and Sleepout Louie roughly 1966. Sleepout ran the Yorkshire in Newport for the Cleveland Syndicate pre 1960. He got his name from Sleeping Out during hands in poker games. You did not want to think he was really asleep.
Brooklyn made a 7 high Straight Flush in hearts on 5th street. He bet the farm. Sleepout opened his eyes after a couple minutes and called. Sleepout made a gut shot queen high straight flush also in hearts on 6th street. Brooklyn went ballistic. Screendoor Smitty jumped up, ran to the phone and called the KY Post newspaper. Sleepout yelled don't touch the cards. We waited for a reporter to arrive. The pictures and the story made the front page the next day.
No one ever asked why we were having a poker game in a joint with a liquor license.
Last time I saw Brooklyn he was working at the Golden Nugget in about 1990. He told me this story like I was not there when it happened.
Rest in peace Brooklyn.
