Face it, most of us don't know much about our cars, especially if it is a newer vehicle. If Joe Blow mechanic tells me my thingamajig under the hood has gone bad and needs replaced, I am basically at his mercy. A big part of the problem IMHO, is the way mechanics are paid. They typically do not get paid by the hours they work in a day but they are paid according to the number of hours that get billed to a customer according to "the book." And if they are paid by the our then they can earn a bonus according to billed hours. So the important thing is to find someone you can trust and know won't screw you over.
