Explanation of Boxing Day
You guys don't have boxing day in the US?
Hmmmm...boxing day was traditionally a day when richer people would give presents to the poor. Many rich people who had servants would of course require those servants to work for them on Christmas day.Obviously those servants could not be with their own families,so their employers would give them the next day off to be with THEIR families and...as a bonus, would "box" up the unused food from Christmas dinners and give it to them.Sometimes they would also put a few coins in a box and give it to them as a reward or "Christmas bonus."
It is a stat holiday up here and many of the stores have their biggest sales on December 26th,and people head to the malls or downtown or whatever and fight throw the hoards of people to get great deals.
Trust me...it is rarely worth the aggravation unless you are heading for a big ticket item of which there may be only a couple in the store.
Wow...I had no idea.
And now you know.
