Since I began this report, I ran across an unidentified chip which failed to sell on ebay which says it is from Newport Oregon on one side. It is on the square in circle mold so prevalent for Newport Oregon chips. Unfortunately, it only has the initials “YF” on the other side. I contacted the seller and bought it. It turned out to be highly respected chipper, Gerald O’Neal. Sadly, Jerry had no information about the chip. Don Lueders has suggested it may be a prototype or a sample chip, as many square in circle prototypes and samples are known. Luckily, many of the square in circle records are available, and such chips can often be identified…for a fee. I intend to check for records on the chip at some point, but will not be able to for some time.
I would love to see any Newport, Oregon chips I don’t have. I am also interested in any corrections/additional information to what I have posted here.
I would like to thank Nancy Olson, Steve Goodrich, Wilson Gee, Gerald O’Neal, Don Lueders and Jodi from Casino Collectibles for chips, info, help and ideas. I hope you enjoyed this report.
