I understand that, in many cases, that is a possibility. However, it is not the case here. The dark chip looks exactly like the chip I scanned last year when it was brand new. This is not fading or darkening. They are clearly different colors. Both chips were scanned within a month of being brought out. They are both brand new. I do not believe they were made at the same time. I refer to it as a variant, however, because I doubt the change was intentional.
