Check out my website (I use www.freewebs.com as my template and it is free). It has hundreds of free templates and with a small amount of html knowledge, very simple for anyone to do. Also, I use www.photobucket.com to store all my pictures and I simply link to them. Couldn't be easier and no books needed. If this helps, great, if not, best of luck with your site.
