I once received a MOP plaque in the mail that was taped over the obverse on to a piece of cardboard and when I removed the tape from the surface of the plaque it lifted the pigment from the engraved portion that it was in contact with...

The plaque was well over 100-years old and had been preserved in its original state for all that time...
