I thought I'd post some interesting articles about the relicensing of the Tropicana Casino Resort in Atlantic City, and its parent company Adamar of New Jersey which in turn is owned by Columbia Sussex Corporation. Apparently both the Atlantic City based UNITE-HERE Local 54 and West Caldwell based International Union of Operating Engineers Local 68 have strong objections to Tropicana and Adamar's relicensing and finding Columbia Sussex unsuitable as a casino operator. According to one article the unions state that since Columbia Sussex's acquisition of the Tropicana it has made it "Significantly understaffed and created unsanitary conditions". If the New Jersey Casino Control Commission does revoke Tropicana and Adamar's license and finds Columbia Sussex unsuitable it will be only the second time that a casino in Atlantic City was forced to shutter its doors, the first time was on July 4, 1989 when agents from the Casino Control Commission and Division of Gaming Enforcement raided the Atlantis Casino (Formerly the Playboy) and seized the casino and placed it under an independent administrator.
BTW a bit of trivia, Adamar is Ramada spelled backwards, Ramada was the Tropicana's original developer and owner.
