Re: And the Democrats in Congress agreed.
Face it, Iraq was a Nation the neo-conservative wing of the Bush administration within the defense department came into office wanting to invade. That should be clear to anyone now who has any sense of recent history over these past twenty seven years. And whether or not there were WMD's isn't even that relevant. The WMD's were only a way of swaying the American public and public opinion into supporting the invasion of a Country that never attacked us or posed any real immediate threat, considering they were contained, and that there were weapon's inspectors in there at the time, descovering that the supposed WMD's that even Clinton and others suspected were NOT there. And this issue should not be viewed as either a "right" or "left" issue, either. Putting all politics aside, this should now be a lesson on how to avoid the many mistakes made in almost every aspect of how we have conducted the war in Iraq, and what should be considered most, is how to go about solving the real concerns of terrorism throughout the world and approach this problem in the "smartest" and most "effective" way possible. That is what the debate should be! And just to sum up my own personal feelings, coming from someone who enlisted and served during the Viet Nam war, making friends around the world is and always will be better for our Nation than making enemies. And the one thought I just can't seem to rid myself of is this; What if, instead of spending the almost "Half Trillion" dollars the Iraq war has now cost our Country and its tax-payers so far, with no end in sight, what if only a fraction of that money was spent on building hospitals and schools throughout the rest of the world, how much goodwill and respect that would have generated for our great Country, instead of the resentment and anger that seems to be festering throughout the world, undoubtedly creating future generations of terrorists now that we most likely will have to face in our furture? Just wondering, that's all.
