Re: Long-term storage
Hello Jane, I have stated before on this board that I prefer 2X2 paper coin envelopes to store everything from coins/tokens to casino chips to political tabs to bird point Indian arrowheads to anything else that will fit in the 2X2 inch paper envelopes that one might want to collect. It seems not many people were/are interested in this method, as the 2X2 do not have a window, so one must open the envelope & see the item inside. They can be bought at coins shops or on the internet through coin supply stores for around $22-25/K(1000). The real beauty is that they is no color loss/seepage in these paper envelopes. I use white or kraft brown 2X2 envelopes & have done so since the late 1950's. If I am putting an uncirculated coin up to save for long term storage, the coin is first wrapped in anti-tarnish tissue & then placed in a small aluminum foil wrap before putting in the 2X2 coin envelope. I have seen various plastic envelopes used, but they do not seem to stand the test of time, in my opinion, as many plastics will bleed due to the solvents in the plastic, after a while. This method has worked well for me for almost fifty years now. Best Wishes, Mike Hodges
