I had some unknown sticky goop on the back of a token I received in trade (the trade was fair and I knew the token was not in good condition). I asked the same question since I assumed the chip had little value, but I thought it might at least look nice. Archie Black responded by saying don't every clean tokens. The cleaning is easily visible in a lens apparently and is very frowned upon by serious collectors. I have no knowledge about tokens or coins, and, in the case of a token that is otherwise worthless, I don't know what you should do.
