Tonight’s Note comes from Saudi Arabia. It is a new 2007 issue 5 Riyals. Saudi Arabia is issuing a complete set of all denominations during this year. Something I find unusual about this new issue is the date listed on the back as “2007”. What is so unusual about this is that Saudi Arabia does not use the Christian date but rather the Muslim Hejira Date that refers to the year Mohammed fled from Mecca (2007 AD = 1428 AH).

The front features King Abdullah bin Aziz at right and a petroleum refining unit at center. The back shows Jubayal Port in eastern region at left center. The watermark is the image of King Abdullah bin Aziz. The note contains a security strip as well as UV markings. Because these are ‘New Issue’ no book value has been established but they are fetching between $3 ~ $5 each. ENJOY!
