Bakelite Casino Chips...Who Made 'em?

Enjoyed the Chipco discussion, pretty cool this hobby, you learn something everyday! Another educational source is Chip Chat and the current issue, #43, had a pretty interesting revelation for me. Doug Saito has a set of 4 Midway chips for auction and gifted us with a whole page of history and opinion on the little beasties. For the unfortunate who don't Chip Chat, here is the general rundown. Midway Casino was located in Midway City just south of Las Vegas, '44-'46. Probably became the Magnesium Club according to Doug and Midway City became Pittman and just disappeared into various annexations as time went by. The chips can be found but they're not exactly everywhere. I've managed to snag this trio as time has passed and the auction set of four colors in the large print style is a pretty good acquisition opportunity that you may wait quite awhile to find again. Good luck.

But!

The headline news about Doug's presentation of these guys was that the chips are made of Bakelite. I did not know that! Had no idea although I knew lots of home-type chip sets were made of Bakelite and a related product, Catalin. Doug explains all about the two. Since Bakelite is so easy to determine, Doug must have the goods on these chips so I'm on board with the Bakelite deal. Only known Nevada Bakelite chips sounds right.

But!

Who made 'em? vbg That arcane info not included so I'm appealing to the Chipologists hereabouts for input if you please. Plain mold chips aren't anything I know much about. The three I'm showing have some differences. Hmmm, red, white and blue! Two issues for this short-lived club? The small print duo have very square edges while the blue large print chip has round edges like I'd expect to find on most USPC stuff. Let's kick this around and see what we know! vbg BTW, here's a famous Chipco issue. Please keep Von and his All-In-One hammer/tomahawk/candleabra/Gitmo nippleclamp tool away from these!!!
