My opinion(s)
In Response To: Same chip?...twice as much? ()

Not surprising for ebay ... or any auction ... for several reasons.

My opininon is that when bidder identities are concealed (protected) as was the $61 chip; potential buyers are reluctant to getting into bidding wars among unknown and possibly rigged parties. Conversely, there is genuine (sometimes fierce) competion among known rival bidders to the extent that bidder 'A' will outbid bidder 'B' as a matter of principle.

Quality of scans may be different. Bidders perceive two different scans differently as to condition.

Different bidders may or may not be participating in the same sale due to conflicts of work schedules or away from their computers, or sometimes even available at ending times, so in effect they may not have been in the hunt on the first offering, but are available to bid favorably on a follow-up offering of a similar chip. Conversely, when successful bidder 'A' now owns the chip he/she was searching for, he/she is no longer is in the market for another one and does not up the bidding ante when the next one is offered for sale resulting in a lack of competition from a potential high bidder at any price.

Bottom line is that not all similar chips and/or buyers are equal and is not only limited to ebay, but at chip shows as well, including the CC & GTCC Conventions. Prices vary from dealer to dealer and a buyer may pass on a lower priced chip at Dealer 'A' in favor of Dealer 'B' chip. In fact, the buyer may not have even seen Dealer 'A' chip at a lower price when he/she purchased the similar chip from Dealer 'B'. I'm sure that has happened to a majority of chipboard readers on occassion. It's sometimes called "buyers remorse".
