In the past two versions of the program (my latest is the 2006 versions) I have not had any installation problems, and I think Symantec FINALLY decided to put some effort into the installation process, so that it can automatically remove prior versions and not end up stepping on itself. Good lord, up until the 2006 version, they sure had their share of problems with installation failures, not to mention that the UNINSTALL does not seem able to uninstall everything they put on during installation (you need to download a special removal tool to get out all the hooks they put in).
I just ordered the Norton Internet Security 2008, which comes with the NAV 2008 program, but since it will be arriving today, I have not yet installed it. Will probably do so tonight. From the reviews I have read, it is MUCH streamlined from the older versions. Finally they have speeded up the thing and reduced the memory-hogging beast that it used to be.
I looked into the Norton 360 product, but it is designed for non-technical folks and so has removed the ability to control funtionality too much for me. It's getting good review too, but I hate when a company (including MS) decides what is best for the computer owner/user (bastages), so I will stick with the detailed versions for the foreseeable future.
I've never had the major problems with any norton product that many others scream about. Like anything, I suppose the people that have been affected by software issues are the ones that do the reviews (people don't complain about things working perfectly).
