I don't know much about it, but...

The jockey mold is generally not used in the US (there may be exceptions). I do know, however, of one instance where a cic was placed in a "clay" mold rather than a bud jones mold:

I doubt if it was common, but there may have been other instances of such chips. Others would know more than I.
