I don't shoot races every weekend, but when I take pictures that are not racing, in RAW format, they are about 10gb each image. Plants and insects last weekend ended up just under 2 GB of photos. That was just shooting during breaks between race groups. (no car pictures to speak of)
I have one computer which is pretty much dedicated to photography, scanning and photo editing. The one I'm on now, is email, business and surfing the web. There's another dedicated to NewsRover 24/7. The 4th is about ready to be retired, but has all my different web pages, websites and old images on it, plus backup of the business. (it is also connected to a webcam that watches the parking lot at work and broadcasts images to a web page, saves them to the hard drive, using motion detection as the trigger.) Computer 5 is being upgraded to my new Business/Email system.
Then there are the laptops... One for Netstumbler, GPS travel, Etc. Another holds, AMB Orbits and race T&S software, plus photo editing on the road. Another one (junker) for TV broadcast of race monitor data.
I could back up all of those systems onto one 500 GB drive, plus every photo I've taken in the last ten years, and have space left over.
On eBay this week.
