Do you really think that the attacks would stop if we withdrew every American (and British) soldier from foreign soil and isolated ourselves here (and in Great Britain)?
What critics of the war fail to address is the fact that radical Islam seeks to DESTROY any part of civilization that doesn't follow its interpretation of Islamic teachings. They declared war on our society long before September 11, 2001 and they won't be losing their resolve within a year or two, no matter what course the war in Iraq takes.
They are coming for us, make no mistake about that. And the next attack will be more widespread, more deadly, and will likely include the simultaneous use of small nuclear devices in several American cities. Devices which evidence suggests are already in the hands of Al Qaeda. This will mean a single-day death toll in the hundreds of thousands.
The fact that there hasn't been a major terrorist attack in this country since September 11, 2001 doesn't mean that they are through. Their credo is that they will "outpatience patience". The next attack will only come when it can be executed perfectly, with the maximum carnage and suffering inflicted.
Personally, I prefer to see our trained soldiers continue to find and kill these people if they are willing to take up arms against us in their own part of the world. The moment we stop fighting them there is the moment they start putting in motion the final preparations to destroy us here at home, whether home is New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Las Vegas or London.
