Wash. D.C. (AP) - U.S. officials today announced the recall of cookies containing dangerously high levels of lead. Typically sold at dollar stores and then circulated on Internet chat boards, the cookies are painted to look like favorite American brands, such as Oreos, Nutter Butter, and Chips Ahoy. Lead levels in the cookies' paint has been measured at more than ten times the allowable limit.
Because the cookies are not individually marked with their country of origin, consumers are advised to refrain from eating any cookies purchased in calendar year 2007 and to send them to Jim McNally in Michigan for further testing and disposal.
