To me, the inserts in the $25 SS chips look like the same style as those in the non-genuine NBD chips. So I guess this means that there are no known examples of genuine $25 SS chips that can be used for comparison purposes?

I find all of this stuff fascinating. And since I own NO examples of the chips in question, I have no interest in this debate outside of historical curiosity. Doug Saito had a number of comments on Bill Borland and what he did preceding his seminar last year. I found that discussion very useful as without having seen it (and recently rewatched it twice on the DVD) I would have no real context in which to understand these issues as Bill Borland was gone by the time I started collecting chips!
