Did you buy the H&C SS at the same time as the NV molds from Gillette?
If you answer yes to that question, here is what I say happened.
The H&C SS rack chips are sitting in the same place where the NV SS molds are, today.
The same person has both racks.
Gillette et al did NOT buy the SS rack from the SS owners sometime between 1978 and 1990.
Bill Borland or Jerry Wall or both did buy the original H&C rack sometime between 1978-90.
Bill fired up his trusty hot stamping machine and ran off the NV molds for 38ยข each.
Gillette et al wondered into his store, Bill showed them both racks, H&C & NV molds and they loaded up. They may have or might not have been told the truth. They may have been told the story about the SS owners not being happy with Paul-Son, or they might have made it up themselves. Either way the story does not hold water. No reason to spend the $ for a new rack after a few months because you are mad at someone. Maybe after the rack you just paid $ for wears out, but not after a few months.
Before you reply ask around and see if anyone you know ever seen or bought either the H&C's or NV mold rack prior to 1990. Did anyone buy the H&C's prior to 1990?
Why does the H&C's show wear? Why don't the NV molds show were?
Remember the H&C and NV racks all reside side by side in the same place today.
IMO, the fact the NV molds are Borlands does not detract from the value of the chips, in fact it might enhance it.
I have no dog in this hunt, I am not selling the chips. I only bought the SS NV molds. I had no interest in the H&C's.
I've spent 12 years looking into Borland and his chips. I find it fascinating what he did.
I only care about the history.
