this $1 chip once had a cancel like the $2.50 below it? It did. You can not see the roll marks in the scan that leveled out the indentations. Notice the spotting around the inlay were there was no hot stamp the grain in the center of the chip is finer where the hot stamp was removed. If you have the chip in your hand and tip it to the light it is easy to see. I do not think it was a Whalen, as I remember his work is just about impossible to spot. I got the chip in trade and new what it was from the start so I did not suffer any loss on the deal.
