1) Yes, there certainly are dealers who carry current non-Nevada chips. Whether they happen to have the particular chips you're looking for is another matter. You'll also find current chips in the trade sessions.
2) "If I went with a list of 50 chips (all obsolete, prices should be under 30 bucks each), would someone give me a rough idea of how many of those 50 I would find? 50? 49? 12?" I don't think anyone can give you a definitive answer except to the extent they may have seen the chips when looking through dealers' inventories. You might post your list here and see if anyone can let you know if they saw them on the floor this year.
3) "Is room to room trading/selling/buying allowed, or is it limited to the convention floor?" Actually, the only trading allowed on the convention floor is the occasional trade with a dealer willing to accept chips in payment instead of cash. Few do. Trading goes on everywhere else though, from the club-sponsored trade session rooms to room-to-room.
4) "Once there, is there any way of advertising what chips you're looking for, or is it a table to table search effort?" You're pretty much on your own, although if you tell a couple of friends what you're looking for, they might be able to alert you if they see it on a table somewhere. The bourse floor is pretty large, though, and once you separate, you might not run into the same people all day! But then, that's part of the fun.
5) You're on your own on this one. Just remember, I wouldn't belong to a club that would have me as a member! Well, except for chipping, of course.
