Club Auction prices realized...

were pretty consistently low. It took something hard-to-find to bring a strong price. In my opinion, on-line auctions are lowering prices for the collector. eBay prices are typically closer to dealer prices than retail prices at a chip show. However, as I recall only two lots were No-Sales on Friday night.

And yet... look at prices for Doug Saito's live auctions. I am constantly amazed at the high prices his lots bring. Proper descriptions and a bit of "hyping" is required for a seller to get a good price when selling at auction.

My suggestion for future Club auctions is that a strong case be made for viewing these events as a club moneymaking project. Many bidders wouldn't mind bidding an extra 10-20% if they stopped to think that the higher prices would benefit the Club even if the same chip might be found elsewhere for less.
