Hwy 127 trip report - best year ever

I got up at 5 AM on Wednesday to visit the Hwy 127 worlds longest yard sale. It goes from Cincinatti to Gadsden AL. I started in Crossville TN and saw everything up to Cincinatti. First day I spent 12 hours in the heat and gulped down 5 - 20 Oz bottles of water. By the end of the day I had to skip some places since I was running very late. The lady at the hotel told me I was the last one to check in. I spent the first night in Harrodsburg KY (near Lexington) and the second night near Argosy casino in Lawrenceburg IN. On the 3rd morning I worked my way south from Newport to where I left off the day before, near I-71. Over the 3 day period I spent 30 hours rummaging. Boy am I hot and tired! The scan shows one of my better finds and is 18 carribean and LV chips. The chips are glued to cardboard but whatever glue they used comes off completely. The next page shows poker chips I found yesterday most of which have different initials on each side plus a few tokens. Also a few illegal club chips - the red and yellow are from S&L club and came from a Cincinatti estate according to the dealer. The same dealer is supposed to contact me about a box of chips he has, some of which sound like C&S chips. DROOL! The third page shows one of each die I got plus some oddball items I picked up. I have no idea why there were so many old dice available this year compared to other years. And there were even more things that don't scan well like tip boards and a type of slot machine game I have never seen before. Really happy about all of the stuff I got and if I have any duplicates I will try to bring them to the convention.

Now I want to know which one of youse guys was the turkey that was looking for casino chips at a barn outside of Lexington KY on Friday morning! When I was there two different dealers told me someone beat me by a few hours. I was just hoping that they were headed south since I had already cleaned out everything to Crossville. grin

Now for the best news. On Thursday morning I saw a what I thought was a local film crew filming a dealer and didn't think much of it. About 10 minutes later I heard 2 guys in front of me talking and one guy was asking the other what he collected. The one guy left and I saw the other a minute later and asked if he was with the film crew. He said that he was the producer for the HGTV film crew and they were working on this years show about the Hwy 127 yard sale. We talked about me collecting chips and dice for a few minutes and then he set up to interview me for the show!!! We talked on film for almost 15 minutes but I will be happy to get 15 seconds about chip collecting on the show. I even managed to put in a plug for the club and convention. So exciting but I just hope I came across okay and don't sound like an idiot since I was very nervous. The producer said that there was about a 75% chance of using some of my interview.

Late Friday as I was almost ready to head for home I ran into the dealer that sold me the poker chips. He had a map on display with pins in it. He was keeping track of where his customers were from so I put one in for Mount Juliet. He then told me that HGTV had filmed him and his map the day before and were going to return on the last day of the show to see how the map looked. I told the dealer to mention me to the film crew especially since I had bought some chips from him and had already done mystory on tape. I hope that helps get my story on the show.

Well gotta go pack for the convention.
