Slabbed chips are placed in a sealed holder and are "graded" by "experts". This is just a chip in Lucite - it can not be removed without significant damage to the chip.

Thhis is a very rare Harrah's $100 chip - rated as a Z4 worth over $1,000, but in Lucite, not so much.....
